BULAWAYO’s Nkulumo Dube won the elite category while Robert Sinclair scooped the masters’ and Kevin Woods the veterans’ event in the three-day Volta de Bulawayo cycling tour that ended in the city on Sunday.

Dube first won the 1.5KM sprint in a time of one minute 59 seconds and was a close second in the 80KM event that he finished a second behind winner Advocate Phiri in one hour 55 minutes two seconds.

Dube then secured the overall gong after clinching the elite 120KM cycle in three hours nine minutes 13 seconds.

Sinclair was tied in second place with two other cyclists Marcell Marshall and Miguel Dos Santos in the masters’ 1.5KM sprint after recording a time of two minutes 16 seconds.

Woods from Harare crossed the finish line first in the veterans’ sprint in two minutes 16 seconds followed by James Freeland six seconds later.

The 1.5KM sprint started from Tshabalala Game Park along Matopos Road with 14 elite, nine masters and three veterans’ cyclists taking part.

Dube comfortably won the sprint followed by Chris Brown in two minutes 13 seconds. Phiri was third in two minutes 18 seconds.

Kevin Smith finished the masters’ sprint in two minutes seven seconds ahead of Sinclair, Marshall and Dos Santos, who were tied on two minutes 16 seconds.

Woods was followed by James Freeland, who crossed the line in two minutes 22 seconds, in the veterans’ sprint.

In the masters’ 50KM stretch, Smith crossed the finish line in one hour 28 minutes seven seconds followed by Bruno Azvedo a second later with Mashall coming third.

Dube then imposed his dominance of the tour by winning the 120KM race. He was followed by Thabani Moyo in three hours nine minutes 15 seconds.
