FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza says Dynamos are a strong brand when it comes to Zimbabwean football and they can still rise from their challenges to lift the league championship this season.

Speaking ahead of the their league meeting this Sunday at Rufaro, Mapeza said they know they are entering into the Lion’s Den as they make the first trip to the capital.

There is a lot of uncertainty at DeMbare regarding the technical team and yesterday it was not clear whether the executive had finally met to review the coach’s performance after he fell short of expectations.

But the former Warriors captain believes the Glamour Boys remain dangerous opponents, especially when they are cornered, and he believes his men could become victims of a backlash from the team which has just managed a single victory.

Dynamos have half the points which have been accumulated by FC Platinum, who are on second position behind leaders CAPS United.

And DeMbare have scored only a third of goals that have been scored by the Zvishavane side who have six goals in five meetings.

Yesterday, Mapeza said Dynamos still pose a big threat.

“This is Dynamos we are talking about. We have to prepare well. We are very cautious. Dynamos remains Dynamos, that’s a brand, one of the strongest brands in Zimbabwean football,” he said.

“People are commenting on the quality of players at Dynamos but I have never heard a coach saying that, why, because quality is there and once they start getting results they can go all the way and win the league.

“We just know that we have to prepare well this week as we are coming to Harare to face one of the best teams in the league.”

FC Platinum would be looking at quickly regrouping after dropping points for the first time this season on Saturday when they were held to a goalless by Harare City.

“It is not like we were going to win all the matches. We knew this was going to happen and we are not in shock. Even if we dropped points, we are happy and we are looking forward to our next game and we would want to get a positive result.

“We are taking each game as it comes and we will not put ourselves under any pressure.

“The second half of the league it will be about mathematics, calculating points on how to win the league  or to survive relegation, so it is better to pick points now and then plan well.”

The coach is happy with the way his charges are carrying out their duties five games into the season.

“So far so good. I am happy with the boys. We just hope the boys won’t get injuries as they have to maintain consistency.

“I think it is every coach’s wish to avoid suspensions and injuries to regular players, it brings consistency having the same team playing together regularly,” he said.
