Ten groups from Matabeleland North Province have been selected to provide entertainment at the Zanu-PF Annual National People’s Conference that takes place here next week. The groups drawn from Victoria Falls, Binga, Hwange and surrounding areas are Mosi-oa-Tunya High School choir which will sing the national anthem, Chinotimba Primary School (traditional dance), Vuka Mthwakazi (traditional), Umbelebele Warriors (Lubale), Ubuntu Bomuntu (imbube), Mwedzi Muchena, Chimoto Traditional Vibes, Mabobolo from Binga, Masiya Kings and Black Amakhwezi (amabhiza).

They will share the stage with seasoned performers including Sulumani Chimbetu, Mbare Chimurenga Choir and Police Band. Chairperson of the entertainment committee, Christopher Mufakwatsi Dube said the groups were now polishing up their acts ahead of the conference, adding that top Victoria Falls band Chicken Bus would likely be added onto the line up.

He said Mabobolo, a traditional group from Binga excelled during the First Lady, Grace Mugabe’s visit to Binga earlier in the year and had therefore been identified by her.

A music gala will also be held at the close of the conference with organisers finalising on the artistes who will perform. The venue will be revealed then. Last Saturday, Zanu-PF secretary for administration, Ignatius Chombo, urged the conference organising committee to ensure that all performing groups are accustomed to the demands of the event.

“You need to make sure all groups know what they’ll be doing at the conference. We don’t want a situation whereby when we want a song, people start looking at each other because they don’t know which song to sing,” said Chombo.
