What was meant to be a nice time for booze by Mr Change Shumba (56), of Flat 24 Kings Court at the corner of Fort Street and Masotsha Ndlovu Avenue and his son, Angels, also of the same address on Friday has turned nasty as he is now accusing his son of spending the money on beer.
Angels was reportedly given $180 by his father to keep so that they would not squander it.

He was supposed to give the money to his mother at home later on.
Mr Shumba is now suing Angels for theft of the money as he claims that he spent it on beer during the weekend.
Although Angels admits he was given the money, he denies he squandered it and claimed he and his father got drunk and believes some thieves searched him.

Angels pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Victor Mpofu yesterday to answer to a charge of theft.
While his father claims that his son spent the money on beer, Angels denies the allegations saying there was no way he could have spent the money on beer without his father’s knowledge because they were drinking together.

Angels was remanded in custody to 14 December.
Testifying in court as a witness, Mr Shumba said Angels was excessively drunk on Sunday that he was left convinced that he spent the money on beer.
He told the court that he decided to take his  son to court because it was not the first time he had stolen from him, as he had been irresponsible before.

Asked by the court why he entrusted his son with the money if he was aware of his  behaviour, Mr Shumba said he thought he had repented.
Cross-examining his father, Angels asked why he was convinced he had spent the money on beer to which Mr Shumba responded that he had never seen him drunk the way he was on Sunday.
Angels said he spent $10, which Mr Shumba had given him as pocket money on that night, but Mr Shumba dismissed the claims saying no one could have spent only $10 from Friday to Sunday on beer.

The court also heard Angels was irresponsible that sometimes his father would lock him  out of the flat whenever he came home drunk.
The State led by Mr Trust Muduma alleges  that on 25 November at about 5.30pm, Mr Shumba and Angels went to drink beer together at  Snappies Bar at the corner of Fife Street and 6th Avenue.

While there, the court heard that Mr Shumba gave Angels $180 which he admits Angels was supposed to keep the money so that they do not spend it on beer and later give it to his mother, Mrs Dorcus Shumba.

The court heard that instead Angels converted the money to his own use and his father is convinced he spent it on beer.
Mr Shumba reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of his son.
