The long-awaited feature film Qiniso that was shot in Bulawayo, will finally be screened at the Rainbow Cinemas next week after months of editing.
The film targets the African market because of its story line. It was shot last year in August at Lalani Lodge and Conference Centre in Matsheumhlope. Qiniso is directed by Lenni “Mdawini” Sibanda and produced by Thubelihle Moyo and Kudakwashe Takundwa. The cinematographic work is done by Ernest Mackina. The film stars the likes of Bokani Nleya, socialite Gilmore Moyo, affectionately known as Gilmore T, hip-hop artiste Thorne P, Leroy Ndlovu and Nomashawekazi “Lady Tshawe” Damasane.

The film is about an investigation to solve the mysterious death of a prominent lawyer played by Philani Nyoni. The suspects in the crime are his wife, brother and the wife’s cousin.

Lady Tshawe, who plays one of the suspects Zanele, said the film had many twists and turns that would keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

“The characters in the film include me, a detective who’s investigating the case and a journalist who’s writing about the murder. It has many twists and turns and even I as an actress don’t know who at the end killed the lawyer,” she said.

The dub poet and singer said she was inspired to work on the film after she was chosen to be one of the characters after auditioning.

“Last year I saw an advert calling for people to audition for roles in the feature film. I then answered the call and was surprised that they chose me. I then put a lot of work and dedication to the whole project,” she said.

Lady Tshawe said apart from the feature film, she was now involved in building her musical and poetry career for the coming year.

“Be on the lookout for more performances from me in the city and around the country this year. I’m involved in poetry, music and theatre and I’ve been involved in a lot of those productions,” she said.

Lady Tshawe said she has been moving between Bulawayo and Harare since the beginning of the year to do shows.

“Two weeks ago I was in Harare with Jazz Invitation at a show at Misty’s. We had a great time and last week I was at the Acoustic night at the same joint. This is part of raising my profile as an artiste,” she said.
