A POLICE officer in Bulawayo who had just been fired from work vented his anger on a fellow officer by assaulting her for demanding $100 that he owed.Tichaona Charamba, 29, severely beat up Pamela Chibwana, 45, an assistant inspector based at Hillside Police Station on December 11 and neighbours had to come to her rescue.

Charamba yesterday appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso facing assault charges.

He was convicted on his own plea of guilty and sentenced to nine months in prison.

Three months of the sentence were suspended on condition of   good behaviour while the remaining six months were suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service at ZRP Nkulumane.

Charamba told the court that he had no money to pay Chibwana since he had just been fired.

“Your worship, I didn’t mean to hurt her but I was stressed. I had just been fired from work so I had no money to pay her.  I lost it and beat her up. My wife is expecting and I don’t know where I will get the money to pay hospital bills. Forgive me please, I just lost control because of stress,” he said.

Prosecuting, Ruvimbo Chanduru said Charamba went wild and assaulted Chibwana after she demanded $100 that he owed her.

The court heard that on December 11 at around 9AM, Chibwana went to Charamba’s house to demand the money.

Charamba hurled insults at Chibwana before punching and kicking her several times.

The assault only stopped after neighbours intervened and restrained Charamba.
