BULAWAYO’s team for the upcoming Zimbabwe National Youth Games has received a huge fitness boost ahead of their camp after a local gym, Body Works Gym, offered its services to the 208 athletes for free.

The team, according to the Sports and Recreation Commission coordinator for Bulawayo Metropolitan province, will go into camp at Eveline High School on August 8 and remain there until departure for the Games which will be held in Chinhoyi from August 13-21.

“We have received an offer from Body Works to bring our athletes there for some conditioning. This will also boost their psychological and mental preparedness for the Games. We want to thank management at Body Works Gym who said this is their contribution to Bulawayo in general and Team Bulawayo in particular,” said Dzvimbu. The Gym boasts of the latest equipment in the fitness industry.

Meanwhile, Highlanders 90 coach Melusi Sibanda has been appointed the Bulawayo provincial football team head coach and shall be assisted by Bulawayo City’s assistant coach Farai Mujokoro while Toronto FC gaffer and sports journalist Sakheleni Nxumalo will be the team manager.

“While football is the only sport code yet to give us its list of athletes by name, I am happy to announce that they have, however, appointed their technical team which will be led by Sibanda while Mujokoro will be his assistant and Nxumalo will come in as team manager,” said Dzvimbu.

Other sports codes, said Dzvimbu, have since submitted their lists with athletics submitting a list of 20 girls and 22 boys, boxing has six boys and an equal number of girls.

Tennis will have four players, volleyball has submitted 12 boys and the same number of girls so has basketball with handball submitting 14 players in each category.
