FIRST Mutual Holdings Limited, through its subsidiary, First Mutual Health recently spearheaded the refurbishment and modernisation of the Great Zimbabwe University Mashava clinic and also donated an ambulance to the same institution.

Group chief executive Douglas Hoto said the gesture was part of their effort to go beyond their mandate.

“We are cognisant of the priority areas within our government and through this initiative we are demonstrating a clear alignment of two of Zim-Asset’s priority areas namely Infrastructure and Health. In addition, we believe that for our students to excel, they must be of sound body and mind, and our investment into the clinic will help to ensure that this is propagated in the event of illness.

“The innovation displayed by GZU in the exceptional work they have carried out in all the facets of the university is astounding. It is a perfect brand fit with our payoff line —Go Beyond. The statement is what drives us and represents our commitment to our stakeholders to go above the expected call of duty in whatever initiatives we embark upon”, Hoto said.

The clinic which serves approximately 3,000 students and staff and the donation of an ambulance completes the service cycle needs for the medical facility.

“First Mutual Health is impressed by the innovation displayed by the leadership at GZU in creating an institute that can hold its own regionally and internationally.

“It has shown innovation in the manner it has raised its own funds, used existing infrastructure which is the Mashava mine that was disused and converting it to the state of the arts halls of residence”, added Hoto.

Apart from assisting Great Zimbabwe University, First Mutual Health was also involved in the refurbish Rutsanana Maternity Clinic in Glen Norah, and was also a pioneer in wellness programmes in offering free medical consultations and dispensing Over The Counter (OTC) drugs in various parts of the country.

First Mutual Holdings Limited is also playing a part in the education sector by investing in the youth through the First Mutual Foundation whose mandate is to offer education assistance to selected, economically disadvantaged children country wide.

First Mutual Health made its entrance into the Zimbabwe business arena at a time when innovation around the medical insurance was needed.

The business has grown by more than 112,000 members since inception and continues to grow underpinned by good service as shown by the positive feedback from both clients and service providers.

The company has smart partnerships beyond our borders in India, Malawi and South Africa where clients can access specialised health care at affordable pricing.

This innovation has seen the business expand and premiums grew by 19 percent during the 2012-2013 financial period. The growth is attributable to a 36 percent increase in membership.
