ALL roads lead to the Hwange Colliery Edmund Davies Hall on Saturday for a fundraising function organised by former Hwange FC players. The money raised will be for their 2015 projects.

The former Chipangano players’ organising secretary, Alick Nyoni, who retired in 2011 after 14 years of service to the team in the midfield department, confirmed the developments and said their main thrust was to continue being a relevant and integral part of the Hwange community through initiatives to help former players and the society at large.

“We’ve decided to organise this modelling event as we want to do away with the syndrome of dependency on various stakeholders for anything and we’re optimistic the event will be a huge success and serve as a springboard for big things to come as far as the Hwange FC veterans’ financial status is concerned.

“Our committee has engaged the services of Solani Nyoni, a name which without doubt is big in Hwange town’s modelling circles as she has co-ordinated many shows of this kind before.

“From what we get, we intend to embark on a poultry project early January 2015 by resuscitating the old fowl runs at the Hwange FC clubhouse and funds generated will be used to assist former and current players in areas like funeral expenses and even other different needs. We’ll also cover expenses for our social matches here in Hwange and outside,” said Nyoni.

He said the fundraiser would have full bar facilities. “We expect girls above 16 years from even Victoria Falls to participate in this event which we hope will be an early festive season entertainment present for the people in Hwange,” Nyoni said, adding that preparations for the event were going smoothly.

“We’re running around with the logistics for the show and we hope to have about 15 girls exhibiting their talents on the glittering stage and by the look of things people are likely to have a memorable evening,” he said.

The Hwange FC veterans have former Hwange and Air Zimbabwe defender David Phiri as their chairman while Kenneth Ngulube is the treasurer.

Amon Mukozho and Dumisani Mafikeni are the committee members while other former Hwange players in the set up include Shimani Mathe, Taboniswa Ncube, Chingumbe Masuku, Vitalis Kamocha, Mindo Nyoni, Isaac Phiri and Francis Mwinga.
