FORMER Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) board member Charles Godfrey Maunze has died. He was 70.

The veteran educationist and cricket administrator passed away on Sunday just after arriving at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare where he had been taken for an X-ray.

Maunze was a former president of the National Association of Secondary School Heads and first served as a member of ZC’s interim board in 2006 before being elected in 2007. He served on the board until his retirement on health grounds in 2013.

He will be remembered as a great teacher, wonderful sports administrator and a generous man.

“The Zimbabwe Cricket board, management and staff would like to pass our heartfelt condolences to Mrs Maunze and the family for the loss of their beloved husband, father and grandfather.

They are all in our thoughts and we pray that they find strength and courage to get through this difficult time,” ZC said in a statement. Maunze is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and five grandchildren.

Mourners are gathered at 14 Gelcon Avenue, Greendale, Harare and burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
