THE French Embassy in partnership with the Alliance Francaise has lined up various cultural activities in Bulawayo and Harare as part of the annual International Francophone Week celebrations.
The celebrations kicked off on Monday and will run until March 21.
The francophone Week is a period when French-speaking embassies and institutions in Zimbabwe partner with Alliance Francaise and French schools to present a series of films, concerts and activities that reflect the diversity of the Francophone world.

Princess of mbira, Hope Masike is expected to make her debut appearance in the City of Kings on Sunday at the Alliance Garden. Marie Helene Predhom, director of Alliance Francaise de Bulawayo said the show would see Masike belting out renditions of some of her favourite French songs.

“With some great French songs executed with the natural flair of this multi-talented songstress, the concert will be one to watch. We urge music lovers to bring a picnic chair, or a blanket and pillow and enjoy the atmosphere of a beautiful garden.”

Film enthusiasts will be treated to a film festival featuring the latest Francophone movies with a plethora of films from different countries taking part in the Francophone Week.

“The films can be enjoyed by all as they have English subtitles. The daily screening in the John Knight room of the Art Gallery will enable the public to experience different parts of the Francophone world through cinema.

“Entrance is absolutely free,” Predhom said.
