SOUTH Africa-based local designer, Thembani Mubochwa, who recently won an award at the just ended Vodacom Durban July, has appointed style icon – Gilmore Tee as brand ambassador for TZM Fashion House.

Gilmore Tee, an endorsed style icon, has been seen at public events including Zimbabwe Music Awards, Zimbabwe Fashion Week, South Africa Menswear Week dressed in TZM outfits, something which made it even easier for Mubochwa to appoint him as the face of his designs.

Mubochwa who hogged the limelight with the design of an Elephant Dress said: “Selecting Gilmore Tee as our ambassador wasn’t a hard task as he’s perfect for the brand. He’s the ultimate Zimbabwean ambassador where fashion is concerned.

“Gilmore Tee has become a powerful brand not only in Zimbabwe, but in Africa as a whole. He represents what Thembani Mubochwa is all about in terms of laying the foundation of our Zimbabwean fashion and beauty industry for the next generation.”

Gilmore Tee’s outfit at the Durban July earned him a feature on Nigeria’s Top Entertainment magazine – Pulse Nigeria and Fashion Ghana.

Speaking on the appointment, Gilmore Tee said: “I’m extremely excited to be working with Thembani Mubochwa. This collaboration came through at a time when Zimbabwean fashion needed the synergies.

“The Thembani Mubochwa Brand represents me in so many ways and I admire the fact that he clearly understands his client and knows how to execute the garments in an utmost fitting manner.”

It has become an international norm that fashion brands partner with personalities in pushing their products to new markets and levels. In South Africa, brands such as Gert Johan work with media personality – Bonang Matheba with Pulse working with Donald and SA Idols’ host Proverb.

Locally, Vault Cosmetics at one point worked with Pokello Nare.
