Gloag to host Nash Under-20 soccer finals

GLOAG High School in Bubi district, Matabeleland North, will tomorrow host the provincial National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) Under-20 football finals.

All the seven districts in the province are expected to send their representative sides whose winners will proceed to the national finals at an as yet unidentified date and venue.

The secondary schools expected at the event are Somvubu from Bubi, defending champions Hlangabeza from Nkayi, Manjolo from Binga, Chilisa from Hwange, Mzwangendaba from Lupane, Sojini from Umguza, Mavela from Tsholotsho and the hosts.

Nash national head in charge of football Albert Mucheka said they will be meeting their sponsor tomorrow to decide on the venue of the national finals.

The Under-20 football tournament is likely to be used as qualifiers for the R G Mugabe national Under-20 football tournament whose finals are set to be held at Kutama College, President Mugabe’s former school.

Former Premier Soccer League chief executive officer Chris Sambo, who organises the national tournament, said they will be meeting tomorrow to deliberate on the logistics of the finals, whose holders are schools football powerhouse Pamushana of Bikita, Masvingo, who beat another football guru, Churchill High School 1-0 in last year’s final.

Meanwhile, Gloag High School headmaster Gamuledi Ncube said his school was ready for the provincial finals and said hopes were high that Gloag High will make full use of their  home advantage by going all the way to the winners’ podium.
