A JILTED 25-year-old Gokwe North man allegedly stabbed his friend to death accusing him of snatching his long time girlfriend.
The late had returned home for the Christmas holiday when he met his fate.

Mike Pemhudza of Munyamani village allegedly stabbed his friend only identified as Mangara five times in the chest and he died on the spot.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday last week at Madzivazvido Township in Gokwe North.

Headman Madzivazvido who witnessed the tragic incident said Pemhudza was in a relationship with Memory Kakonde a few years ago before she left the village for town.

“I actually witnessed a man being killed over a woman. It was terrible. Pemhudza was said to be in love with this woman before she left the village to settle in town.

“It’s not quite clear how and when she then dumped him for his friend. It was, however, apparent that the girl was no longer going out with Pemhudza,” said Headman Madzivazvido.

He said last Friday at about 5PM, the late and Kakonde were at the shops walking together when Pemhudza who was drinking beer at a local bottle store saw them.

He approached the two lovebirds and told the late to leave his girlfriend alone.

Headman Madzivazvido said Mangara told Pemhudza to back off and concentrate on drinking beer arguing that the woman no longer loved him.

He said this angered Pemhudza who then produced an Okapi knife and allegedly stabbed his friend five times in the chest.
“Mangara died on the spot,” said the headman.

He said the man was buried on Sunday. Chief Chireya confirmed receiving a report about the incident.

“I received a report about the matter on Sunday and the culprit has since disappeared from the area. We’re working together with the police to make sure he’s brought to book,” said Chief Chireya.

Police spokesperson for Midlands Province Inspector Joel Goko could neither confirm nor deny the murder.

“We’re yet to receive a report on the issue.

“We’ll have to get in touch with the relevant station and then get back to you with the details,” said Insp Goko.
