THE country’s flagship amateur golf tournament, the Dugmore Trophy, has now been tentatively scheduled for early next month after being postponed twice due to rainy weather.

One of the 19 Zimbabwe Golf Association order of merit events, the tournament that has over the years brought together more than 100 amateur golfers at its traditional course, the Bulawayo Golf Club, was initially slated for January 20-23, but was postponed due to rains that pounded the city during that period.

“We are trying to have the Dugmore Trophy on April 1 and 2, but hopefully the rains won’t be on our case again,” said Matabeleland Golf Society president Victor Suerga.

The Dugmore Trophy will set the ball rolling for a busy golfing season in Bulawayo and the region that will also include schools as the society implements its programme to promote junior golf.

Matabeleland Golf Society has five golf courses, three in Bulawayo, one in Hwange and the other in the resort town of Victoria Falls.
