A 19-YEAR-OLD mother of two who bashed her 75-year-old grandmother to ease her pain after she had had a misunderstanding with her boyfriend was sentenced to eight effective months in prison.Morisha Dube appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube charged with physical abuse.
Dube pleaded guilty.

She was sentenced to four months in prison and two months were suspended on conditions of good behaviour.

Six months which were suspended from a previous conviction on condition she does not repeat a similar offence within five years were added to her sentence.

She will serve eight effective months in prison.

Prosecuting Keneth Shava said Dube is not a first time offender.

“It is not Dube’s first time to come to court. She was in court recently for another crime. She was sentenced to perform community service in August,” he said.

The court heard that on Thursday at Nkulumane, Dube came back home drunk and was violent. She proceeded to where her grandmother Egness Dube was and started insulting her.

When Egness tried to explain to Dube that what she was doing was wrong, she lost it and slapped her several times on the face.

She pleaded guilty to the charge and told the court that she was under the influence of alcohol.

“Your Worship, I only want to apologize to my grandmother so that she can forgive me for what I did. I was drunk, I don’t know what I was thinking,” said Dube.
