GREENS Supermarket has opened a branch in Plumtree following the closure of AJY Spar Supermarket recently.

The supermarket, which is now housed at AJY Spar premises, is operating a wholesale combined with a supermarket in the border town.
AJY Spar shut down its operations a month ago over undisclosed reasons.

Greens Plumtree branch manager, Garikai Maganga said they will open a supermarket that will run separately from the wholesale by the end of the month.

“As Greens Supermarket we’ve brought Bulawayo to Plumtree by opening a branch at the border town. At the moment we’re operating a Greens Cash and Carry Wholesale but we’re also selling singles,” he said.

“By end of May we’ll be opening a fully stocked one stop shop supermarket that will operate concurrently with the wholesale.”

Maganga said their new branch will offer quality services as those found in their Bulawayo branches.

He said they had realised that the border town did not have a one stop retail shop, which offered goods at competitive prices. He said the border town did not have a vibrant wholesale store.

“We did our research and realised that consumers in the border town were being short changed. Our retail shop will cater for everyone from residents within the town and villagers in the rural areas.

“We’ll be offering fresh products and a wide range of products under the fruit and vegetable section, liquor and cosmetics section among others. Our catch phrase reads “freshness guaranteed” and we promise to deliver on that,” he said.

Maganga said the response from consumers was so overwhelming as they were flocking the wholesale to secure products. He said they started operating on April 24.

He said their Plumtree branch was at the moment operating with 18 workers but the number will increase once they opened the supermarket.

He said most of the workers that had been deployed at the new branch were locals from Plumtree.

A resident from Plumtree, Gugulethu Moyo said the new supermarket was a great initiative as it had helped ease strain of securing groceries.

She said the supermarket was so far the first to offer affordable prices in Plumtree. Moyo said she had been previously forced to buy some of her grocery items in Botswana or Bulawayo in order to save money but Greens Supermarket had offered a solution to her problem.

Some residents in Plumtree said they were looking forward to the opening of the supermarket.
