MOBILE telephone handsets maker, Gtel has launched a new Android smartphone, A7755L1. The new gadget was launched during the 56th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo last week.

Gtel head of sales and marketing, Robert Gonye said the company decided to take advantage of this year’s premier business expo that ran under the theme “Stimulating Trade: Seizing Opportunities to Stimulate Growth”, to unveil their new product.

“It’s not by mistake that the launch took place here. We took advantage of the fact that there are many corporates and individuals represented at this forum, hence there is a greater opportunity to market and sell our product,” he said.

“The phone has a 4.8 inch HD super Amoled LCD. It has double tap wake up whereby if one taps the screen of the phone twice, it switches on instantly. It also has an application called pocket mode, whereby when you put it into your pocket, it locks itself preventing it from dialling. It costs only $44 in monthly instalments for one year.”

Gonye urged the government to help local device companies penetrate the African market by ensuring that their products were available throughout the continent.

“The government can help us to forge smart partnerships because our market is still small. If Africa can become one global market, then we can add a lot of value to what we are doing,” he said.
