KWAITO rapper Guluva 7 has joined a number of other artistes who have released songs praising Bulawayo with a single track, City of Kings.

The four minute track on his latest album Colour of Dreams appreciates the splendour of the City of Kings as Bulawayo is known, one of its major football teams, Highlanders and the beautiful ladies from the city.

“The song in general is about the city of Bulawayo. It talks about the neighbourhoods in the city, the music legends, Bosso and how vibrant the city is,” said Guluva 7, the hottest newcomer to the genre according to the Zim Hip Hop awards.

Adding his own hip-hop contemporary flair in the track, Guluva 7 creates an atmosphere that goes back to the days of the likes of Lovemore Majaivana.

“As a proud Bulawayo born citizen I was inspired by Majaivana, Fanyana Dube, Cool Crooners, Jeys Marabini and Sandra Ndebele, who all have tracks about the city by the way. I felt I had to produce a track about the city too with my own style and genre, which is hip-hop,” he said.

Guluva 7 said he was inspired by the fact that there has never been a hip-hop track about the city.

“I’ve never heard any hip-hop track about the city on radio and events so also wanted a track that’ll also be incorporated in events held in the city and also pay respect to the legends that have put the city on the map, from Father Zimbabwe (the late Vice-President Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo) to the music legends,” Guluva 7 said.

He said unlike other tracks on Bulawayo, his was unique in the sense that it included almost all the locations in Bulawayo.

“People always talk about a few neighbourhoods in the city, mostly Makokoba and Luveve. So on this track I wanted to take people who have never been in Bulawayo on a tour of the city musically, as I mention quite a number of locations in the city,” Guluva 7 said.

The track is available for free download on Guluva 7’s Soundcloud account shared on his Facebook fan page.
