AWARD-winning hip hop artist, Guluva 7 says he is inspired by his 16-track debut album ‘Colour of Dreams’, which earned him his first ever award last year.

The album, which he co-produced with Cal_Vin at Volte Face Records, has now earned him two nominations at this year’s Midlands Music Awards. It was nominated for Best Hip Hop.

“Colour of Dreams (COD) inspires me, it portrays the day to day ‘Kasi’ lifestyle, life experiences in general, and the love for hip hop. The album is a soundtrack to my life before COD and after. The stories I tell are woven by myself and my life teachers hence I paint what I see through the audio”, Guluva said.

He said he will continue to market the singles in his album especially tracks that he feels did not reach full potential. He said he is determined to see his vision spread to the masses.

“I released the album last year October and it had a good run on radio, clubs and shows. There are singles such as Gijima, Isgubhu seKasien, Amatshankura, Sjwaila Kabi, City of Kings, Esemgubalo, Spina Daideng, iLife yi mpilo; Lelilanga, Omanqoba, Ungenzani and Buy Skelem that I feel need to be known.

“There is need to do proper marketing. I see no need to release new material when people do not even know the whole ‘Colour of Dreams’ track list”, he added.

Guluva 7’s single ‘Daza to Topola,’ which features Zim hip hop’s reigning heavy weight Cal_Vin from the same album, was also nominated for Best Collaboration at the Midlands music awards 2016.

“It’s an honour to be nominated in the same category with outstanding artists such as the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi, DJ Stavo, Roki, Ur Highness, Edith WeUtonga, Brandon Mvura, Claire, Valentyne and Prince K Musarurwa. I respect their grind”, Guluva said.

He has performed at Zim hip hop awards, Kalawa homecoming, Changamire awards, Wizkid show in Harare, Second Homecoming, Bulawayo Music Carnival, just to mention a few.

Guluva 7 has also shared stage with Jah Prayzer, Oskido, Killer T, A.K.A, Cassper Nyovest, Nathi, Kid X, NoMoozlie, Jeys Marabini, Sandra Ndebele and Durban Nights, amongst others.

The hip hop artist will get a chance to express how his album inspires him at Miss Gweru 2016 on July 29. He is amongst the local artists who will perform alongside South African trio Micasa in a show slated for August 5 in Bulawayo. – Zimbojam
