Gwekwerere happy at CAPS

Makepekepe have not won the Premiership since 2005 when they completed back-to-back titles under the guidance of Charles Mhlauri.
CAPS United have been the busiest of the Premiership giants on the transfer market that has been dominated by ambitious and big-spending FC Platinum.
But for all their off-season acquisitions, it is Gwekwerere who has the biggest profile and the fact that he crossed the great divide from old enemies Dynamos will only serve to spice up the famous Harare derby this year.

The former Warriors striker’s move also means it will be the green half of the capital that will be singing the Gwekwerere bhora chorus, which had been a signature tune for the DeMbare fans.
Although CAPS United began their pre-season training two weeks ago at Churchill High School, Gwekwerere had been conspicuous by his abse-nce, raising speculation as to whether he had rea-lly committed himself to the Green Machine’s cause for the 2011 season.

But after a two-hour workout under coach Moses Chunga, a bubbly Gwekwerere said he was looking forward to a bright season and was already feeling at home.
“I want to thank CAPS United for the lovely welcome. I feel comfortable and at home.
“Football remains the same and I don’t have pressure playing for CAPS United coming from Dynamos. As a senior player I know better and I will just focus on my game.
“I am happy here and will have no problems with scoring goals, being a top goal scorer and helping CAPS United win the league,” said Gwe-kwerere.

The former Moroka Swallows and Jomo Cos-mos forward said he had also put behind the problems he encountered at the Dynamos last season and is looking forward to a new life in the green and white of CAPS United.

“Problems are always there at Dynamos. I thought the executive would address my plight, but l realised it was not going to be.
“I had to make a decision fast and begin the new season on a clean slate.
“Remember I have to put food on the table for my family.
“At least here I will be much more focussed and I will concentrate on my game without worrying about other things like salaries and rentals,” said Gwekwerere.

Gwekwerere also appealed to the CAPS Uni-ted fans to warmly accept him and give him a chance.
“I am still the same Evans and I know there is too much to criticise, but all I want is to do well for CAPS United. As for Dynamos fans I am going to miss you but life has to go on . . . I will have to put everything for CAPS United now,” he said.

Gwekwerere was also happy with CAPS Uni-ted’s bid to strengthen their side by bringing in more players.
“Everyone is geared for the new season. There are good players here and coach Bambo (Chunga) is one of the best coaches around and as players we have to help him win the league.
“Football doesn’t change and should obviously fit in the system. Even when Cristiano (Ronaldo) left Manchester United, people said a lot of things but he picked his form and is doing very well at Real Madrid and I should be able to do the same here.”

Although Gwekwerere is optimistic of a fine debut season with CAPS United which he hopes will end with the championship being displayed in the Green Machine’s trophy cabinet, Chunga has warned that it will not be an easy ride and has been telling his players about the need to work harder.
CAPS United went shopping during the off-season and in addition to Gwekwerere, they also snapped young striker Simba Sithole.-The Herald
