A HEADMASTER at Keme Primary School in Plumtree left the court in stitches after alleging that he ran away from home because of his abusive wife. Dumalisile Moyo, 51, who claimed that Khetiwe Moyo who resides in Lobengula West is abusing him, was dragged before Bulawayo magistrate Vivian Ndlovu over maintenance.Khetiwe was demanding $400 per month for her upkeep and that of their two children.
The magistrate ruled on Friday that Moyo should pay $250 per month for the upkeep of his wife and their children.

Moyo told the magistrate that his wife was demanding more than what he was not earning and complained of domestic violence perpetrated on him by Khetiwe.
He said he could not report her to the police because he was afraid that his children would suffer if their mother got arrested.

“Your Worship, I am not even earning that much, my salary is $352 and my gross salary is $510,” said Moyo.
“I moved out of the house because this woman is very abusive and I’m now staying at school.”

He said Khetiwe once visited him at his former school and abused him.
“Sometimes she calls and insults me. I’m not yet considering going back to the house because I’m still observing her.”

Moyo said he had always been sending between $180 to $200 to his wife monthly.
Moyo  told the magistrate that he was suffering from verbal abuse since his estranged wife was calling and insulting him. Ndlovu advised him to file a formal complaint with the police if he continued receiving such abuses.

“You are a headmaster and you are supposed to enlighten people about such issues. If you cannot deal with your situation then how are you going to enlighten people?”
However, Khetiwe said her husband was lying and told the magistrate that she did not cause violence at his previous school.

“Our families have sat down several times to solve our problems but after the meetings, he packs up his bag and leaves the house,” she said.
Khetiwe said her husband changed his character after he got promoted.

“It’s not his first time to get married. He has other children who are house girls and some of them left school when they were in Grade Seven.
“He likes taking loans and when he gets a girlfriend that likes clothes, he buys the clothes at Edgars.
“There is havoc at home and he has not been paying for the house bills.”
