Ander Herrera looks set for a few weeks on the sidelines after fracturing a rib in Manchester United’s win over West Ham on Saturday.
The Spanish midfielder was replaced by Antonio Valencia with a quarter-hour to play at Old Trafford and headed straight down the tunnel.

A statement released by United yesterday afternoon read: “Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera sustained a fractured rib during the match against West Ham United on Saturday.

“The Spaniard was substituted in the 74th minute and the club will continue to monitor his progress over the next few weeks.”

Herrera has become the 9th member of Louis van Gaal’s squad out injured as they prepare to take on Everton on Sunday.

The others are Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Wayne Rooney.

Herrera, 25, has been in excellent form for United since joining from Athletic Bilbao back in late June.

He has featured in the Premier League matches against Swansea City, Queens Park Rangers, Leicester City and West Ham.

He scored United’s second goal in the 4-0 win over QPR and put United 3-1 up at Leicester, only for them to lose 5-3.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are looking at playing lucrative friendlies overseas to fill the midweek void left by the absence of European football this season and the early League Cup exit.

The record 20-time English champions have forecast a 10 percent drop in revenue in  2014-15 after failing to qualify for the Champions League under David Moyes.

Asked about mid-season friendlies overseas, managing director Richard Arnold says that’s “something we continue to look at.”

Also, Louis van Gaal’s managerial reign began in July with him questioning the team’s obligations to sponsors, but Arnold says there is no problem.

Arnold said that Van Gaal understands “what’s required to get a first-class team onto the pitch and also what’s required for running a club of our magnitude.”-Sportsmail/Soccernet.
