HIGHLANDERS Clubhouse will be a hive of activity today when it plays host to a five-team netball tournament which will precede the launch of their team.

A group of former players and netball enthusiasts are said to have taken an initiative to revive the Highlanders netball club and make use of the Clubhouse courts that have been lying idle for years.

The Highlanders team will compete in the Bulawayo Netball League which is an affiliate of Zimbabwe Netball Association (Zina).

Ndumiso Gumede, the Highlanders’ chief executive officer said they are looking forward to the launch of the club.

“Not everyone can play football and we’re happy that the Clubhouse which is a multi-sport facility is getting another discipline which is netball. It is good to see former Highlanders netball club player Sithulile Mlotshwa who is now based in Botswana and her friends taking an initiative to revive the club. It will be good to see the Clubhouse hosting other disciplines like basketball, volleyball, rugby and table tennis among others which were there in the past,” said Gumede.

Mlotshwa is one of the guest speakers at today’s launch.

Highlanders have also invited Zina chairperson Ruth Hove, the Bulawayo Netball Association’s technical director Nozipho Mpofu, Bulawayo Sports and Recreation Commission coordinator Sam Dzvimbu as well as representatives from the Ministry of Sport and Recreation to the launch.

Meanwhile, Bulawayo Netball League official Precious Mudenge said four clubs, Delta Sparrows, ZRP Bulawayo, Free-Stars and Lobengula Queens will compete in the knockouts, with the winner meeting Highlanders in the final.
