HIGHLANDERS’ fans were yesterday over the moon after their team beat traditional rivals Dynamos 1-0 in the Zimbabwe National Army Charities final at Rufaro Stadium.

This is the first time that Bosso have beaten DeMbare in open play since July 2006.

Bosso beat DeMbare in the Independence Trophy final in 2011 after a penalty shootout.

The Bosso fans said beating Dynamos in open play in yesterday’s match effectively broke the spell that had been cast on the Bulawayo giants and could spark a new path of prosperity for the club.

The Highlanders supporters told Chronicle Sport yesterday that the win would boost the team’s confidence and they were looking to more positive results.

“It’s been a long time since we beat Dynamos. It had to be done. The team has been working towards beating Dynamos and now that it’s been done, more things are coming our way,” said Bosso fan Ndabezinhle Zondo.

Another fan Sikhangele Gumbo said it was good for the team as they had forgotten to sing Bosso jubilation songs.

“I’m so happy that Highlanders has won. It’s even sweeter because we beat them in their home ground. They should continue winning as we had now forgotten how to chant Bosso winning songs,” said Gumbo.

Vitalis Malaba said Bosso’s victory would bring peace to his home.

“I usually fight with my wife when Bosso lose, but today we’re both going to be happy with my wife. I’m starting to believe in (Highlanders coach) Bongani Mafu. He must be given more time to build the team,” said Malaba.

A Caps United supporter Ivan Chigatu congratulated Highlanders saying the Bosso-DeMbare rivalry was becoming monotonous.

“It restores the rivalry. The rivalry was becoming tame. This is a good sign that Highlanders are coming back into the game.

“Their encounters had become boring as the result was now obvious,” said Chigatu.

Dynamos fan Tichaona Hoko said it was good for soccer that Bosso won.

Hoko said Highlanders must be patient with Mafu as he believes he is a capable coach.

“I’m happy for Mafu. It’s time for Highlanders’ supporters to appreciate that he’s a good coach. They may not be happy with where they’re sitting on the league table, but I believe Mafu is good for the team,” Hoko said.

Another Dynamos fan Justice Mashanda said team work is what propelled Bosso yesterday and they should keep it up.
