THE Matabeleland Junior Swimming Championships will be held at Hillside Teachers’ College on  Saturday.
Joseph Gliwinski, the Matabeleland swimming board spokesperson, said they were expecting at least 70 athletes to take part in the event.“We’re expecting at least 70 swimmers from all the six clubs affiliated to the Matabeleland Swimming Board namely Barracudas, Penguins, School of Swimming, Crusaders, BG Dolphins and Zambezi Tigers from Victoria Falls,” said Gliwinski.

He said the event would begin in the morning and invited all swimming enthusiasts to come and enjoy an action packed day with their families.

Meanwhile, three Bulawayo swimmers who made South African Level Three times at last weekend’s competition at the City Pool have been included in a 46-member Matabeleland squad that will take part in the National Senior Championships next month.

Dale Bruce, Liam O’Hara and youngster Denilson Cyprianos, who made his first Level Three time, made it into the  squad.

National swimming board boss Lorna Riley expressed her gratitude to the local authorities and Sport and Recreation Commission for fixing the Bulawayo City Swimming Pool.

“We’re very grateful to the local authorities and SRC for fixing the pool before the national championships. It will be the first time that a national swimming gala is held at the refurbished pool, we thank them very much,” she said.
