HOLIDAY Inn Bulawayo general manager Chiku Mulinde has been transferred to Harare with immediate effect. He is being replaced by Valentine Halimana who was in charge of Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga, Manicaland.

Mulinde, 41, bade farewell to Bulawayo after serving the African Sun hotel group’s branch for three years.

The Bulawayo business community and Holiday Inn staff held a farewell dinner for Mulinde on Tuesday and welcomed Halimana, 44.

“Bulawayo is a great community and its people have been a family to me since I came here from Beitbridge,” said Mulinde in his farewell message.

Halimana has been in the hotel industry for the past 19 years having been deployed to different branches across the country and a three-year stint in Nigeria.

He was born in Bulawayo and grew up in Mzilikazi suburb.

Halimana pledged to work closely with the city’s business community and contribute towards enhancing its economy.

“Thank you all for coming to say goodbye. I don’t know if I’ll be able to fit in his shoes but I’ll try my best. Well done Chiku, this is a sign of confidence that top management has shown in you. You’ll do well in Harare. To the staff, we will work together in good and bad times,” he said.

Several speakers who attended the event such as prominent businessman Raji Modi, National Railways of Zimbabwe board chairman Alvord Mabena, Zimbabwe International Trade Fair board chair Bekithemba Nkomo and Elifasi Mashaba applauded Mulinde for his contribution.

Jabulani Nkomo, son of the late Vice-President, Landa John Nkomo, said Mulinde will always be remembered for his good customer service.

“I’ll miss his good customer service especially when I come and sit at the bar in the evening. I know he is going to do well in Harare,” he said.

Holiday Inn Bulawayo human resources manager, Tatenda Tanyanyiwa, who spoke on behalf of the staff, said Mulinde was a great leader who’ll be greatly missed.

“He was so inspiring because of his hard work and he would help us through our challenges,” she said.
