AWARD winning Afro-fusion group Mokoomba are elated by the response they are receiving from the local audience after they performed at a number of shows in the country.

The group has performed in more than 33 concerts at various festivals in Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, United Kingdom, Morocco, Norway, Algeria, Denmark, Hungary, Ireland and Finland, among others.

The band which hails from the resort town of Victoria Falls believes that performing in the country has opened up opportunities which have enabled them to interact with their home audience.

“The response we have been receiving from our fans in the country is unbelievable. For the past five years, we’ve been touring the world, from place to place especially in Europe and we hadn’t had a chance to come back home and interact with our local audience.

“People are filling up our shows and are still asking for more. We’ve even started to get recognition from various music promoters and artistes and we are grateful for this,” said Abundance Mutori, the group’s bassist and spokesperson.

He added that Mokoomba was grateful for the recognition they received from the Zimbabwe Music Awards as they were last recognised at the National Arts Merit Awards in Bulawayo for Best Arts Personalities of the year 2013.

“We’ve received some awards from outside the country for our music and we never thought we could be recognised in the country.

“The Zima that we won helped us to better position and affirm ourselves in the country as a lot of people did not know about us,” said Mutori.
