AN INSIZA man who recently allegedly robbed two osiphatheleni of more than R30 000 at gunpoint at Selbourne Hotel in Bulawayo has appeared in court.

Mpumelelo Moyo (41) and his accomplice Zama Tshuma, who is still at large, shot one of their victims on the knee as he attempted to flee.

The duo booked a room at the hotel and lured Simbarashe Nyamutero and Moses Ngulube from Chicken Inn Leopold Takawira to their hotel room.

They pretended that they wanted to change South African currency.

The court heard they stole R30 000 and $600 from Nyamutero and shot Ngulube.

Moyo pleaded not guilty to an armed robbery charge on Monday, claiming that he did not understand what was written in the State papers.

“Your Worship please give me some time so that I can go through the State papers and understand better the allegations being levelled against me,” he said.

Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Mr Mark Dzira remanded Moyo in custody to today.

Prosecuting, Mr Tinashe Dzipe said on February 22, 2016, Moyo and Tshuma fired two bullets, one hitting Ngulube on the knee.

“Ngulube attempted to run away but he was shot on the knee and the second bullet missed him. Nyamutero forced open a door to the balcony and shouted for help from members of the public. The accused persons fled from the room. Moyo was apprehended by members of the public who assaulted him,” said Mr Dzipe.

“Police officers who were nearby took Moyo to Central Police Station. They searched him and found him with a gun in his pocket. A bullet head was recovered at the scene.”

Meanwhile, Mr Dzira lashed out at Homicide Chief Inspector Mr Masiyarira Mwezi who was testifying using technical jargon to describe gun extracts that they recovered at the scene but was reluctant to explain their meaning to the court.

“If you do not want to explain to the State the technical language that you are using then you had rather get out of this court and go back to your office. How do you expect this court to convict the accused when you say things that no one understands? If you do not want to cooperate please just get out of this court,” said Mr Dzira.
