A BULAWAYO man was slapped with a 16 year jail sentence for breaking into seven houses in three suburbs and stealing property. Prince Moyo, 21, of Pumula South, who broke into houses in Gwabalanda, Cowdray Park and Emakhandeni, appeared before magistrate Abednico Ndebele facing 13 counts of unlawful entry and theft.

He pleaded guilty to all the charges. Moyo, will however, serve an effective 12 years in prison after the magistrate suspended four years. “One year is suspended on condition that you restitute the victims. Another three years are suspended on condition of good behaviour,” said Ndebele.

The court heard that Moyo broke into seven different homes and stole property which included cell phones, clothes, a DVD player, a digital camera, a passport and varying amounts of money that totalled to $596.

Prosecuting Maria John identified some of his victims as Angason Manyange and Shandukai Mapuranga of Cowdray Park, Admire Muza of Emakhandeni. “On an unknown date in the month of February of this year Moyo stole a pair of leather shoes and $50 from Manyange,” said John.

In the same month he also broke into Muza’s house and stole a Samsung digital camera and a passport along with $250. Another victim, she said, was Mapuranga whose house Moyo allegedly broke into and stole a DVD player which was on a room divider along with $40.
