ALPHA Matumbura has stepped down as How Mine FC chairman with immediate effect, after being reassigned at work.

Matumbura was elevated to the chairmanship position in June following the transfer to Harare of Mlondolozi Nkomo who led them into the topflight league in 2013.

Matumbura who saw his side being reduced to a mediocre team having been pre-season favourites broke the news that he was stepping down on Facebook.

“Good afternoon all. I would like to advise you that I have officially stepped down from the How Mine FC chairmanship with immediate effect, I have been re-assigned elsewhere. I wish the team well in the coming season,” wrote Matumbura.

How Mine have had an indifferent 2015 campaign, escaping relegation last week despite losing 0-1 to Dongo Sawmill.

The 2015 season has been a forgetful one for the gold miners who were pre-season title favourites.

How Mine have gone for a 13-match winless streak, getting their last victory on May 12 when they beat Buffaloes 1-0.

Not even firing of Luke Masomere could save the miners’ awful season.

Matumbura said the new chairman, who will be announced in due course, will appoint a substantive gaffer to replace the interim technical team led by Jeremiah Makota and Sheunesu Chaka.

“I gave my all to the team so that they could effectively compete but competition was tough. Going forward I wish the team all the best and I know that they will do well because they have a supportive management which is keen on seeing the team succeeding. All what the players need to do is concentrate on playing football.

“About the coach, I think there is a need to have the incoming leader appointing his own person so that he/she has a sense of ownership. I will surrender the CV’s that I had received from coaches who are interested in joining us to the members of the executive,” said Matumbura.

Some of the coaches that are said to have been How Mine’s targets include former national team and multi-championship winning gaffer Rahman Gumbo, former Highlanders and Triangle mentor Kelvin Kaindu as well as national team’s Callisto Pasuwa.

The goldminers are also rumoured to be keen on reuniting with their former coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube who is now Bulawayo City FC’s gaffer.
