HOW Mine FC are in no hurry to appoint a substantive coach to fill the vacancy left by Luke Masomere who resigned last month, club chairman Alpha Matumbura has said. At least six coaches have shown interest in the job.

Multi-championship winning gaffer Rahman Gumbo, ex-Chicken Inn and Bantu Rovers coach Mandla Mpofu, national team coach Callisto Pasuwa as well as Harare City’s assistant coach Mkhuphali Masuku are among coaches that How Mine are said to be interested in.

The gold miners are also rumoured to be keen on reuniting with their former coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube, who is in charge of high flying Division One league leaders Bulawayo City.

With the club sitting ninth on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table, Matumbura said they are sticking to interim co-coaches Jeremiah Makota and Isheunesu Chaka until the end of the season.

“We’ve not called or arranged interviews with any of the people who’ve shown interest in joining us. There are a number of people who’ve sent their profiles but at the moment we’re content with Makota and Chaka. It’s only fair that we allow these guys to prove themselves. What this means is that they will be in charge until the end of the season and that’s when we will make a review and plan for the coming season,” said Matumbura.

Makota and Chaka have been in charge of two games, losing 0-3 to ZPC Kariba in the quarter-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup and playing to a 0-0 draw against Whawha.

Their next game is a tricky encounter against championship favourites Chicken Inn.

How Mine are not safe from relegation and to secure their place for next season, they need nine points from the remaining six games.

Their remaining matches are against Chicken Inn, Harare City (away), Flame Lily (home), Caps United (away), Dongo Sawmill (home) and Chapungu (away).

Matumbura is confident that the gold miners will be in the PSL next season.

“We might be in a precarious position on the table but we’ve confidence in the guys. The team played well in the last game against Whawha where we created chances which we failed to convert. It was a positive performance that we needed and I’m sure the coaches and the players are working hard to make sure that we get a win in our next game,” said Matumbura.

The miners have gone for eight matches without a victory, managing three draws during the winless run.

How Mine’s last win was on July 12 when they beat Buffaloes 1-0.
