THREE Old Mutual Heath Streak Academy teams will depart for South Africa today for a Tri-Nation Cricket Series scheduled for December 10-16 following an invitation extended to them by Gauteng’s renowned Rowlin National Cricket Academy.

The Under-13 A and B teams are named under Masca and Pepsi, with the Under-14 side named after Fazak. They will battle it out against Rowlin National Cricket Academy’s teams.

The Heath Streak Academy’s chief executive officer Joseph Rego said the boys are all geared up for the tour.

“We are confident the teams will emerge winners. The three teams, who have had extensive training under the leadership of former Tusker’s cricketers Mxolisi ‘Boxie’ Dube, Thabo Mboyi and Harare coach Shaun Joseph are brimming with enthusiasm. The team spirit is high and we have to build on that and keep doing the things we are doing at the moment. We have left no stone unturned in making the Academy’s inaugural International tour one to remember,” said an elated Rego.

He also revealed that the Academy’s co-founder and national cricket team coach Heath Streak has been personally monitoring performances of the teams in spite of his busy international commitments and has been instrumental in selecting the right combination.

The tournament is being played at the Bedford view Cricket Grounds between December 12 and 15 and the final game of the day will be played under floodlights.

Rego said the South African tour is aimed at scouting the nation’s talent and help nurture future cricket stars.

“The prestigious tournament will offer our future stars International exposure at the same time helping young children reach their full potential and achieve their dreams,” he said.

Two girls, Langa Mpofu (11) who is a Grade Five pupil from St. Thomas Aquinas and Kayael Sibanda (9), a Grade Three at SOS School are travelling with the team.
