By around 7am, thousands of youths from various parts of Zimbabwe had ga-thered at Stodart Hall singing revolutionary songs and dancing as they celebrated the life of the late Governor and Resident Minister for Harare Metropolitan Province.
Mbare Chimurenga Choir was in its usual mood, dancing and singing revolutionary songs.
Thousands of youths toyi-toyed from Stodart Hall to the National Heroes Acre.
Many people described Cde Karima-nzira as a selfless, loving and caring cadre.
Several diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe also attended the burial.
Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara was the only leader from the MDC formations who attended Cde Karima-nzira’s burial.
Family spokesperson and son to Cde Karimanzira, Tawona, said his family had lost a breadwinner, loving father, husband and brother.
“I would like to thank President Muga-be and Zanu-PF for bestowing the hero status on our father. Cde Karimanzira was compassionate and loving, reliable, honest and not greedy.
“He only had three children, but he did not restrict his love to us alone. He was open to every relative and would strive to make sure that everyone in the Karima-nzira clan was well looked after.
“He made sure that everyone was educated,” he said.
The National Heroes Acre was filled to capacity with placards denouncing the illegal western sanctions, which are hampering the country’s economic recovery.
One of the placards by Upfumi Kuva-diki read: “Sanctions must go now, they hinder economic empowerment of you-ths. Sanctions are an attack on Zimbabweans, fight them.
Another read: “Ishemunyoro faithful servant of the people, Revolutionary par excellence, Hamba kuhle qhawe lethu.”
The crowd was entertained by various choirs that included St Luke’s Rugare Choir of the Mazambara fame, Mbare Chimurenga choir and traditional dance groups.
