NJUBE residents yesterday woke up to find part of a human skull in one of the suburb’s streets whose origin remains a mystery.
Residents suspect that someone could have given birth and dumped the baby in a bin and the skull was taken by dogs.A resident who insisted on being identified only as MaNcube said she first saw the skull after 8AM when she was sweeping her yard.

She described the discovery as the shock of her life.

The resident said at first she could not tell what it was, but it had blood and there were flies.

She called an elderly woman from the same neighbourhood, who then identified it as a human skull.

MaNcube said from the look of it, it seemed to belong to a baby.

“Many people could have just passed by in the morning without even noticing what it was. My curiosity arose when I saw a swarm of flies buzzing near where the skull was and when I looked closer, I got the shock of my life,” said MaNcube.

She said the skull had some hair and she and the elderly woman as well as some residents reported the matter at Njube police station.

Five police officers, two in uniform and three in civilian clothing, came just after lunch hour and collected the skull, which they placed in a plastic bag.

MaNcube said women were now afraid to leave their toddlers unattended because of the incident.

“Mystery surrounds how the skull got to our street and we not sure of what happened. I fear for the life of my children and others because it not easy to lose a baby,” said MaNcube.

Another resident, Agnes Ndlovu, said she was now afraid to live in the suburb where such mysterious things happen.

A 78-year-old woman who identified herself only as MaNtonga said the incident could be as a result of satanism.

“Satanism has increased. It is unbelievable how a young person could have done such a thing. This is shocking and we put our trust in the hands of the police and hope they will get to the bottom of this case,” she said.

Police could not be reached for comment.
