ORGANISERS of the annual Hwange Agricultural Show have intensified efforts to market the exhibition, which has attracted limited business over the years.

Chairman of the Whange Show Society which runs the exhibition, Mr Herbert Sansole, said the show will run from August 31 to September 3 under the theme “Enhancing new Technologies: Progressive Production”.

Mr Sansole said they had intensified marketing strategies with the hope of attracting exhibitors, especially Government departments who over the years have snubbed the event preferring to exhibit in bigger events such as the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair and Harare Agricultural Show.

“We have started preparations but as usual stakeholders don’t respond early. We have inquiries and some have started working on structures at the show grounds. We are trying to be aggressive and up our marketing strategies so that we bring in more exhibitors,” he said.

Mr Sansole said a stakeholders’ meeting will be held at the Hwange District Administrator’s office where the Whange Show Society hopes to confirm this year’s exhibitors.

He said no new activities have been confirmed so far but hoped police and army displays would spice up the occasion. Mr Sansole said they have written letters to Government departments to urge them to participate. He implored exhibitors to erect permanent structures to spruce up the image of the exhibition grounds.

Over the years the show has failed to live up to expectations due to lack of support from the tourism sector, Government departments and businesses in Matabeleland North province.
