HWANGE Football Club have gone into secret camp ahead of their much-hyped clash with Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday. Both clubs lead the standings and that has attracted a lot of attention as a potential thriller in Bulawayo beckons.

The two sides are tied on seven points but Tshilamoya are sitting on top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log table by virtue of a superior goal difference over Chipangano.

A source in Hwange said Nation Dube and his assistant Brian Njobvu took their boys to an early camp yesterday, away from the public eye to a spot along the Zambezi River, 50km away from the colliery.

“The boys left this afternoon after their session. We understand it’s all to instil oneness and self-belief among the boys ahead of the showdown with Bosso in Bulawayo,” said the source.

He said indications are that the 335km route from Hwange to Bulawayo will be busier than normal on Sunday morning as hordes of Bosso and Hwange fans are set to travel to the city for the encounter.

“I can assure you that this town will almost be a ghost town on Sunday, as quite a number of fans are preparing to go for the match,” he said.

While Dube’s mobile was reachable early yesterday, he was no longer reachable last night, possible confirmation that indeed he led his charges to the secluded camp.

Chipangano seem determined to hand Bosso their first defeat of the season and in the process exact revenge after the Mbada Diamonds Cup holders completed a double over them last season, winning 1-0 in both matches.

However, Highlanders assistant coach Mark Mathe said his boys were ready for Hwange and are more than prepared to defend their top spot.

“To us Hwange is like any other team.  We respect them yes, but on the field it shall be a different ball game altogether.  We want to fully utilise our home ground while also jealously guarding where we are,” said Mathe, soon after taking the boys through their paces yesterday.

He is in charge as head coach Kelvin Kaindu travelled to Zambia on Tuesday to sort out personal issues.

Mathe said they have been impressed with their high scoring rate that has seen them hit the nets seven times in two matches.

“It’s good to score as many goals as possible but our main issue is to maintain consistency. We should keep on winning regardless of the number of goals we score,” said Mathe.

He has no injury worries after yesterday afternoon’s training session meaning both Cleopas Dube and Peter Moyo should be available for selection.

Week Four matches resume tomorrow with winless How Mine taking to Luveve against Shabanie Mine, a team that, like Hwange had quiet preparations under John Phiri.
