DEVELOPMENT side Hwange Reserves demonstrated genuine title ambitions with a 3-1 away win over Corinthians in a Zifa Mat North Division 2A league at Chinotimba Ground at the weekend.

Proud Muleya scored a brace and Tonderai Songore grabbed the third to give the Hwange juniors a comfortable lead and maximum points. George Beza grabbed Corinthians’ consolation goal.

Log leaders Blackrock and fellow title contenders Hotspurs Leopards stumbled. Blackrock lost 1-2 away to army side Moto Moto although they remain on top with 32 points, a point ahead of Hwange Reserves, Classic Luyando, Moto Moto, Leopards and Baobab Rovers.

Tatenda Ushe and Tabolwethu Dube were on target for the soldiers while veteran Timothy Chuma scored for the log leaders.

Third-placed Luyando continued quietly with their business by edging a stubborn Shumba Stars 2-1 at home, with Lesley Mulenga and Nkonzani Nkomo hitting the nets, while Doubt Majora responded for Stars.

Baobab Rovers threw themselves back into the promotion matrix on Sunday courtesy of a 1-0 away win over Trumus Warriors, with Kundai John’s goal making the difference.

OT Lions Academy hammered hapless Ingagula 2-0, thanks to goals from Jeremiah Kamunda and Merki Chiku.

The weekend’s shock result was at Lukosi Ground on Sunday where Lukosi Pirates humbled high flying Leopards 2-0 with goals by Moses Khumalo and Reuben Mpala.

Nengasha Stars and Iwisa Sparrows shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, with Edwin Mumpande and Thabiso Ndlela scoring for Iwisa and Sparrows respectively.

Amagagasi Under-19 and Flying Elephants completed the action with a Victoria Falls derby in another 1-1 draw.

Amagagasi hit the nets through Thobani Khumalo, while Elephants’ Misheck Nyamutowera was on target.

There was no action in the Mat North Division 2B Binga league as referees were attending a course.
