#IdolsSA: Terra, Tebogo, Keegan true showstoppers

The opening to the Show-Stopper night by the Idols SA top 8 set the tone to an electrifying Sunday night – as expected. However, the excitement was short-lived as one of the contestants had to bow out early on the show.

Another SA Idol voting record of 6.4 million was logged this week, which saved all the men, leaving the three females contestants at risk.

Luck, or votes in this case, were not on Nosihe Zulu’s side as she had to be excluded from the show; leaving only two ladies to compete against five men.

After the terrifying eliminations were over, to bring the mood back up, the Mabala Noise crew including Du Bois, Gigi LaMayne, Nasty C and Ricky Rick took over the spotlight to do what they are best known for – lots of awesome local noise.

Thereafter, the top seven took to the stage and pulled out all the stops; bells and whistles. But showstopper night belonged to Terra Cox who was also last week’s favourite. He put on an entire production with an emergency room theme for his performance of Love on the Brain by Rihanna.

Judge Gareth thought it was a very powerful performance.

“I was blown away by your singing and I found it difficult to look away and that’s the key to tonight’s theme.”

Somizi commended Terra’s zeal to win and that he remained humble after every great performance thus far.

Unathi didn’t cry (this time) but thought he was a productions dream. Noma Khumalo sang Beyoncé’s ‘Sweet Dreams’. Somizi, Unathi and Gareth were thoroughly impressed, saying she “kept it together and outshined the dancers”.

Gareth even went as far as betting all he has that Noma will be on the Idols stage next week. Randall, on the other hand, sang a different tune, saying there were moments where she doubted herself and lost her spirit, regardless of her beautiful voice.

Bevin Samuels sang a Michael Jackson jam, Rock with You, and Somizi this time was the only one who was not impressed saying the challenge of dancing and singing at the same time was his downfall.

Keegan Martin sang Usher’s ‘Hey Daddy’ before Tebogo Louw closed the show with Treasure from Bruno Mars.

His mic went silent once or twice but that did not kill his fire. All in all, the top seven performed their hearts out and hope to make it to the top six. — IOL
