A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Gwanda died after he was struck with an empty beer bottle on the head by a drinking mate in a row allegedly over “boring” music he was dancing to, police confirmed yesterday. Elson Sani Tirivavi of Gwanda Town was hit on the head by Prince Ndlovu, 25, of Sengezane area, on Independence Day while they were drinking at Tuli Training Institute in Gwanda District.
Tirivavi and his cousin Misheck Chirwa were dancing to some “boring” music which Ndlovu did not like, police said.

The accused demanded the music be stopped, but other patrons who were present opposed him as it was their kind of music.
This irked Ndlovu who then picked a bottle and hit Tirivavi on the head.

Matabeleland South provincial acting police spokesperson Sergeant Thabani Mkhwananzi confirmed the incident yesterday.
“The accused person got angry over some music, picked an empty beer bottle and hit the now deceased Tirivavi on the head resulting in him sustaining a deep cut. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Ndlovu,” said Sgt Mkhwananzi.

Tirivavi was rushed to Gwanda Provincial Hospital and later transferred to United Bulawayo Hospitals where he was admitted until his death on Saturday.

It is suspected that the injuries sustained by Tirivavi caused his death although police are still awaiting post mortem results.
“Ndlovu is helping police with investigations and will soon appear in court charged with murder,” said Sgt Mkhwananzi.
