Matabeleland South provincial police spokesman Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe yesterday confirmed the incident, which happened on Tuesday night.
He said Oliver Muleya from Chief Matibe had a dispute with his wife who accused him of failing to satisfy her in bed. This, however, did not go down well with Muleya and a heated argument ensued.
The wife then went and sought the intervention of family elders and did not sleep at their homestead that night.

Insp Dzirutwe said when she returned home the following morning she found her husband’s body hanging from the roof of their bedroom hut.
She then went and told the family elders, who then reported the matter to the police.

“We found a note in the house stating that he killed himself because his spouse had told him that he was weak in bed,” said Insp Dzirutwe.

“Muleya’s body was then taken to  Beitbridge district hospital mortuary. The post-mortem has since been waived by a local magistrate.”
In another incident, a 32-year-old man committed suicide on Wednesday near Makhakavhule cemetery in Beitbridge town when his wife ditched him.
Insp Dzirutwe identified the man as Vonne Vheremu.

He said Vheremu had left his wife and their two-year-old daughter in the border town for Harare where he stayed for 10 months.
During that period he did not communicate with his wife prompting her to move on with another man.

“He only came back on Sunday afternoon where he confronted the woman and demanded to see his child. He was told that she was away with her grandparents.

“The man then tried to sweet-talk her into a possible reconciliation but was turned down. He then reacted by threatening to commit suicide,” said Insp Dzirutwe.
“An argument then ensued between the two, but they later agreed to have a reunion. Two days later Vheremu took his car and told the wife that he was not convinced that she still loved him and he was going to drink poison.”

Insp Dzirutwe said the wife then rushed to the police to make a report and along the way Vheremu called her and said he had changed his mind and was going home.
Soon after making the call Vheremu reportedly drove off along the road leading to Makhakavhule cemetery where he stopped the car and drank the poison.
He became unconscious and was spotted by some residents who alerted the police thinking that he had been robbed.

“When the police arrived they took him to the hospital where the doctors tried to neutralise the poison. He told the hospital staff that he had given up on life because his wife had found another man,” said Insp Dzirutwe.
He said soon after speaking to the medical staff, the man died. The Chronicle
