MORE than 100 players turned up for the Highlanders’ trials aimed at beefing up the junior squads at the clubhouse over the weekend. The trials were for the Under-14s, Under-16s and Under-18s, although the focus was mainly on the Under-14s, who were affected by the elevation of players into the Under-16 side.

The trials were overseen by Bosso juniors’ coach Gift Lunga Junior and manager Smart Moyo, who were impressed by the turnout, talent and dedication shown by the youngsters.

“We were impressed with the turnout and this ranks as one of the best trials we’ve had in recent years. I’m really amazed by the talent out there.

“We had boys, some as young as 12 years, but their exploits were exceptional. We’ve managed to fill the gaps that had been worrying us in the Under-14s as well as to reinforce the side,” said Moyo.

Bosso have been reviving their once renowned junior policy, which seems to be paying off as their development side, Highlanders Academy, recently won promotion into the Zifa Southern Region Division One League after finishing second in Division Two.

However, the Division One side, just like the first team, will not be holding any trials as all available slots will be taken up by players that fail to make the first team cut.
