Mafaro Independence Gala set for Wadzanayi Gardens on April 17.
The mini-gala – probably the biggest in Mashonaland Central Province so far this year – seeks to commemorate the country’s Independence that came about on April 18, 1980 as a result of the sacrifices made by both living and departed heroes.
Some of the country’s top musicians like Pastor Charles and Amai Olivia Charamba, Cephas Mashakada, James Nyamandi of the Four Brothers outfit and Njerama Boys led by Paradzai Mesi, will usher revellers into independence celebrations in style.
Talented young musicians Jah Prayzah, who is currently riding high on the local music charts with his contemporary vibes, as well as gospel music diva Olinda Marowa are billed to perform at the gig.
Show organiser Joseph Kufandiko of Mafaro Promotions said the gala was aimed at raising funds that will be channelled towards assisting a soccer team in the area.
“Proceeds from the gala will go a long way in supporting the Northern Strikers Football Club based here in Shamva.
“We are appealing to people to come out in their numbers to support this event,” he said.
The Charambas are expected to be at their usual best form, as they are known never to disappoint whenever they take to the stage.
The gospel music couple is one of the most consistent artistes in the country, with a string of hits to their name.
Pastor Charamba is currently causing a stir with his latest album “Pashoko Pangoma” that carries the hit song “Zimbabwe” which without doubt will be theme song of the show.
In the song – which takes the form of a prayer – Charamba asks the Almighty to bless Zimbabwe and also goes a step further by thanking the Lord for endowing the country with abundant natural and mineral resources and hospitable people.
Mai Charamba, like her husband, is famed for her uplifting songs like “Rute” and “Hakuna Chombo” that are crowd favourites.
Mashakada is one artiste who has become a permanent feature at national galas, and revellers should look forward to golden oldies like “PaChinhoyi, “Gamba” and the famous “Samson”.
Artistes from Shamva will also have a chance to share the stage with their more established counterparts.
These include Shamva Afro Stars, Chakoma Boys and Future Leaders, while various dance groups will also be part of the line-up.
