PREPARATIONS for this year’s Independence Day Bulawayo provincial celebrations to be held tomorrow at White City Stadium are at an advanced stage with entertainment lined up.

The 2015 Independence Day celebrations will run under the theme “Zimbabwe @ 35 consolidating unity, peace and economic sovereignty.”

Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister Eunice Nomthandazo Moyo will read President Mugabe’s speech at 11PM. Before that, there will be a parade from 7AM from Magwegwe Water Works along Hyde Park road proceeding all the way to the stadium for the main provincial event that begins at 9AM. The Njube Police band will lead the parade together with drum majorettes. Artistes to perform at White City Stadium include Bulawayo up-and-coming groups, Holy Stars, Mqabuko Chimurenga Choir, Zuluwakho, Zimsplash, Blue Soul and Zim-Assets. Dee Nduna from Zimsplash said they were honoured to be part of the celebrations.

“We will be dishing out songs from our 2014 album Malindi and we definitely promise Bulawayo people a good time as we’re celebrating independence,” he said.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Matabeleland regional public relations officer, principal prison officer Garainashe Moyo said Khami Prison choir would perform too. “Even though they’re prisoners they’ve to take part in the national celebrations as they’re meant for everyone in Zimbabwe and they will do the best they can in entertaining and joining the rest in the celebrations,” Moyo said.

Matabeleland regional Independence Day co-ordinator, Nyarai Sibanda said: “People should come and be part of the national event as it gets bigger and better each year as we celebrate our Independence.”
