THE final list of horses to meet in the Independence Trophy race, fourth leg Open series set for Sunday at Borrowdale Race Course will be released today.Mashonaland Turf Club is set to unveil the final field of horses to trade iron and leather for this years’ edition of the Uhuru Cup to be run over 1,600M by horses aged three years and above.

There is declared stake money of $9,000 to be given away to the winner and the three placed runners.

Last week 12 nominees were thrown into the hat to fight for all the available slots in this sprint event that has all the ingredients to go all the way to the wire.

Once the final field has been pushed out, stables are expected to do their final touches in the preparation for the race.

At the same time the organisers will start working on the race card which is expected to be out by tomorrow according to their programme of events made available to trainers.

“If you check with our programme sent to trainers at the beginning of the racing season you will realise that  the final fields for all the races scheduled for this Sunday will be pushed out before the end of the day tomorrow.

“Once the fields are out punters can start making their bets at any of our offices nationwide any day between tomorrow and Sunday,” said Betina Gurajena, the racing manager.

Four stables are watching with keen interest to see which horses amongst their nominees will be given the all clear signal for loading on Sunday.

Meanwhile, owner of Eversolucky, Gary Jolliffe has announced the retirement of this horse from racing. This filly who trained under the watchful eye of Gokhan Terzi has been given a break from the sport that gave her fame and the stable thousands of dollars in prizemoney.

Eversolucky retires with her 100 percent record intact. She has been loaded 11 times winning 3 times and placed 8 times. The last trophy she took back to the stables was the GMW Steed race on March 8.

Writing on the Mashonaland Owners and Trainers Association Facebook Page Jolliffe announced; “Such sad news as we announce the retirement from racing of our special Eversolucky. She has injured a tendon and would require one year off minimum with no guarantee of racing again even then.

“She has done us proud with 11 cheques from 11 starts. These wins came from feature and listed races.  She will be offered to breeders as a broodmare and anyone interested.

“She is sound at walk and trot but sensitive to touch and flexion. The vets assure us that this will settle soon and in no way affect a breeding career. We are gutted at this early end to such a promising career. Recover well my girl.”
