Harare Bureau WOMEN golfers are set to return to action after a two-week-break when they will take part in the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union's Matabeleland Strokeplay at Bulawayo Golf Club tomorrow. The nationwide tournament will see several women battling to be crowned the 2013 champions in their respective divisions. The tournament is the third high profile ZLGU event this year after the Mash East and West event and the Inter-Provincials all held at Ruwa at the beginning of this season. Claire Minter who used to dominate the event is not there to defend her title as she retired from the sport last year. Acy Zerf, Rodnah Mutasa and Margaret Vera should feature prominently in the Matabeleland battles but will have to contend with Loice Chingono, Batsirai Tilowakuti, Yolanda Mubaiwa, Shamiso Makwara among several others in the championship division. The event will be played over 36-holes. In a related event the registration of this year's Zimbabwe Amateur Championships, which are also set for Bulawayo Golf Club from 29-31 March have started. The event attracts all top amateur golfers and the registration will be done at all clubs across the country. In a statement Zimbabwe Golf association vice-president Angus McKenzie said the registration has started and all players willing to take part should register. “Players willing to take part in this year’s Zimbabwe Amateur Championships can now register at different clubs across the country,” he said. “The tournament will be held at Bulawayo Golf club in two weeks time and we look forward to a huge turnout. “To be eligible to participate, players should be affiliated with a ZGA registered club,” McKenzie said. |
