SUPERSTAR Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi has revealed that he will not be submitting his works for any of the local award so as to give up-and-coming artistes a chance.
Tuku said he would instead be taking the back seat and celebrating the success of artistes he has mentored.
“Samanyanga, as someone who has been in the music industry for a long time now and having mentored a number of artistes thinks it’s time that I celebrate the achievements of those I have mentored and those who came after me.

“So I will not be a nominee or a winner in this year’s edition of the Zimas,” he said.
Tuku said award ceremonies could not be downplayed because they elevate musicians and boost their public profile, locally and internationally.

He urged artistes to develop their talent and encouraged them to build a profile that not only them would be proud of, but brands which would make the nation proud.
Tuku expressed his wish for the younger generation to appreciate the value of being nominated for a major accolade.

“Awards ceremonies are not just about winning but the recognition and being considered as one of the frontrunners in your category.
“Being nominated is winning the award because it means you are doing well and you are being encouraged to continue.

“You are already a winner,” he said.
The superstar also urged local artistes to realise that award ceremonies were not battles pitting artistes against each other, but instead must be viewed as a platform to assess their performance against their peers.

Tuku has received many accolades around the world including, Nama, Zima, Channel O, Kora, and Sama among many others.
