JAH Prayzah says he is constantly singing selected songs off his forthcoming new album at various shows to avoid last year’s incident where he almost forgot lyrics to some of the Mdhara Vachauya songs.

The artiste, who is expected back in the country today from America, is now gearing up for the weekend where he has a series of shows lined up in Harare.

“Last year was hectic. We were constantly travelling so there was not much time to rehearse for the new album. But this time around, I’ve made sure that we constantly rehearse the songs by performing them at shows so that the band is in tune when we launch in October,” said Jah Prayzah.

As a result, those in the diaspora and some locals have been fortunate to sample songs from the new album – Kutonga Kwaro before its release on October 13. The album – a follow up to Mdhara Vachauya – will first be launched in Harare before being launched in Bulawayo on October 14. It will have 12 tracks and unfortunately will not contain singles, My Lilly ft Davido and Sendekera ft Mafikizolo.

“My Lilly and Sendekera will not be included on the album as those songs were singles. However, the artistes I worked with on those tracks will be there at the album launch so people will have an opportunity to watch us perform together live,” he said.

The new album, Jah Prayzah said, is a reflection of his musical journey thus far. Some tracks to look forward to are Ndin’ndamubata – a party song, Chengetedza, Emerina and Muchinjiko.

“The album talks about where I am right now. Most of the songs are love and party songs.”

But, just like Mdhara Vachauya, most of Jah Prayzah’s followers will be keen to listen to the title track – Kutonga Kwaro which is already laden with political connotations. Interestingly, Jah Prayzah said: “Just like Mdhara Vachauya, I’ll leave people to interpret the title track but on my part, it’s a song that talks about who I am and where I came from, nothing to do with politics.”

Questioned if the album would feature local or international collaborations, Jah Prayzah said they were still mastering the album and had not yet concluded which tracks would be put.

“There may be collaborations on the album but I’m not sure for now as we’re still wrapping it up,” he said.

However, as a bonus, Jah Prayzah will release two music videos during his album launch in Harare, and likely, the videos are collaborations with international artistes, especially Diamond Platnumz, an artiste whom he featured on Mdhara Vachauya album.

“I’m going to drop maybe two videos on the same day when I’m releasing the album and I’ve more collaborations coming, big ones,” Jah Prayzah told MTV Base recently.

The artiste who continues to fly the Zimbabwe flag internationally thanked fans for supporting his career adding that he was excited that his collaboration with Davido had reached one million views and was well in line to reach two million views soon.

“From my first album which I released in 2007, I’ve been growing every year because of the loyal fans who’ve been supporting me consistently.

“This year, most of my focus has been on collaborations which have been fruitful as they’ve really boost my profile.”
