TWO of the country’s leading household names in music, contemporary musician, Jah Prayzah and dancehall chanter, Guspy Warrior, will have an indirect battle when they launch their albums at two different venues in Bulawayo tonight.
Jah Prayzah will launch his much publicised sixth album, Kumbumura Mhute, at the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel and Guspy Warrior will launch his 12-track Wedzera MaWatts album at Horizon Pub and Grill.

This may be a recipe for disaster especially for Guspy Warrior as he will be performing in the city for the first time compared to multiple National Arts Merit Award winner, Jah Prayzah, who has established a fan base in Bulawayo where he has performed countless times.

One of the artistes will likely be disappointed as they may not get the same support they were going to get if they had launched at separate times or at one venue. One may argue though that the two artistes have different crowds as their music genres are different, but history has proven that the crowds are just the same.

This show will somehow show which of the two music genres – contemporary or dancehall – is favoured this side of the country.
The other deciding factor for the two shows may be the pricing as Jah Prayzah’s show has been pegged at $10 while Guspy’s has been pegged at $5.

Guspy’s show cover charge will likely go up though as the organisers have said they will charge $5 before 8pm and will raise the price afterwards.
What is interesting is the fact that the two artistes collaborated on one of the tracks on Guspy Warrior’s album but failed to collaborate on the album launches by holding a joint show.

However, it seems Jah Prayzah was not aware of Guspy Warrior’s show in the city as his manager, Filda “Mother Filda” Muchabaiwa said she did not know that Guspy would be launching his album on the same day as Jah Prayzah.

Guspy Warrior’s manager Taurai Marakwani also professed ignorance saying they were going on with their plans.
Sizzling dancer-cum-musician Sandra Ndebele will share the stage with Jah Prayzah and his Third Generation band at his album launch while Guspy Warrior will be supported by the Mafia 19 DJs and local DJs, Lacusto, Mellow T and Phat Joe.

Despite being engaged in the Independence gala, Ndebele said she would make it for the launch as she will fly straight to Bulawayo after her gala performance slot.
“At the gala, I have been slotted for 1830hrs. After my performance, I will come straight to Bulawayo. Fortunately my band is in Bulawayo,” she said.
