A 57-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo allegedly assaulted and raped his girlfriend at knife point to fix her after he suspected that she was having an affair.

A court heard that Jabulani Magadlela from Emakhandeni suburb got jealous when he saw his girlfriend (36) being accompanied home by her younger sister’s husband.

Magadlela allegedly stalked the two from a distance and watched while the woman’s brother in-law left her at the gate at around 10PM.

He allegedly emerged from the darkness and held the woman by the neck before force marching her into the house where he allegedly raped her at knife point.

Magadlela who was yesterday supposed to appear before Mr Crispen Mberewere facing rape charges, was remanded in absentia to tomorrow.

He could not be brought to court because the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services (ZPCS) had no vehicle to ferry prisoners to court.

Prosecuting, Mr Simbarashe Manyiwa alleged Magadlela raped the complainant on September 30 this year.

He said the accused who suspected that the complainant had an affair with another man, force marched her into the house before locking the door.

He allegedly punched her several times, pulled a knife from his pocket and attempted to stab her but she held his hand firmly, the court heard.

“Still wielding the knife in his hand, the  accused pushed the complainmant onto the bed and allegedly raped her once,” said Mr Manyiwa.
